Assemblies
Our assemblies are carefully planned to support our children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural education. Our weekly assembly structure complements our diverse and inclusive curriculum as follows:
Monday - Assembly led by a member of our Senior Leadership Team
nFriday - Celebration assembly
Each Friday, the children’s achievements (both in and out of school), exceptional learning / efforts, manners and attendance are celebrated.
Clubs
Round Diamond offers pupils a wide range of extracurricular clubs including coding, construction, yoga and many more, which spark pupils’ interests and allow them to deepen their involvement in those areas.
Houses
At Round Diamond, we have four houses:
- St David’s
- St Patrick’s
- St George’s
- St Andrew’s
Children can earn house points by showing our Round Diamond PRIDE behaviours and also at our annual Sports Day. Each term, the house points are totalled and the winning house gets a prize. Our House Captains help to organise the house mornings and they support and encourage pupils in their houses to earn all important house points.
Leadership and Mentorship
We offer our children plenty of opportunities to take on leadership and mentorship roles, including:
- Pupil Parliament
- Playground Peer Mentors
- House Captains
- Sports Crew
These roles are more than just badges. All roles require dedication and commitment as they are integral to the day-to-day running of our school. The roles allow children to demonstrate their responsibility and help them to develop their own confidence by leading others.
Pupil Parliament
Our Pupil Parliament is made up of 20 children from Year 2 to Year 6. The members are selected in the summer term by their peers and then take part in a range of activities throughout the year with an aim to give back to the community through outreach and charity days, attend council chamber meetings and be role models to children across the school.
Sports Events
At Round Diamond, we promote and provide a range of opportunities for the children to lead active and healthy lives. We hold regular clubs both at lunchtime and after school for the children to further their skills and develop self-esteem, resilience and teamwork. Our aim is for children to be enthused by being active and want to take part in sport and physical activity both in school and out of school.
By holding events during the year such as the mini marathon, Workout Wednesday and Tennis Ball Tuesday, the children have opportunities to further develop their physical literacy skills, be active and learn how to be competitive against themselves and others.
Children have opportunities throughout their primary school education to represent the school against other schools in a range of sports such as golf, basketball, boccia, athletics and cross country through townwide school games opportunities provided by Stevenage Sporting Futures. We also take part in football and netball leagues from Year 3 upwards.
Trips and Experiences
Our intention is to provide all of our children with a wide range of rich activities, trips and visits which provide meaningful context to their learning and which enhance and enrich their school experience. KS2 have opportunities to take part in residential trips beginning in Year 3 with a school sleepover and culminating in a four night PGL experience in Year 6.
Ivy Parliament
Our children represent the school in the Ivy Parliament, a thriving and influential body within Ivy Learning Trust. Every year, new representatives from each Ivy school are elected to join the Parliament, which gives children a voice in educational and social issues.
Pupils meet regularly to discuss current themes and decide on an action plan for the year. In the past they have written to MPs, visited the Houses of Parliament, appeared in the local press and successfully lobbied to ban single-use plastic bottles from all Ivy schools.
