Welcome
Welcome to Year 2! We are looking forward to getting to know you and for all of the exciting learning we will be doing this year.
Key information
PE Day: Our PE day is on a Monday afternoon. Children will need a PE kit including black/navy joggers or shorts, black/navy jumper, white t-shirt and appropriate trainers.
Reading books: Your child will be read with or asked about reading at home once a week. Their book will be changed when they have finished it, or sooner if they ask a teacher.
Other: Please record your child's reading on the Go Read/Boom Reader App. Children also have access to Times Tables Rock Stars to help learn and practise multiplication and division facts.
Curriculum coverage
Autumn
In English, children will apply reading skills through texts such as Grandad's Island, Paddington and The Christmas Pine. In writing, they will explore character descriptions and formal invitations.
In Maths, children will explore number and place value, addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division.
This term includes The Great Fire of London in History, living things and habitats in Science, and human and physical features in Geography.
Spring
In English, children will explore texts such as Coming to England and The Street Beneath My Feet, alongside humorous poetry, non-chronological reports and formal invitations.
In Maths, children will explore money, multiplication and division, length and height, and mass, capacity and temperature. This term also includes Newmarket in History, materials in Science, London and Nairobi in Geography, and fieldwork/map skills.
Summer
In English, children will explore texts such as Fantastic Mr Fox and The Sun and the Wind. In writing, they will produce recounts, non-chronological reports and character descriptions.
In Maths, children will explore fractions, time in five-minute intervals, data and statistics. This term also includes the history of flight, plants in Science, and fieldwork/map skills in Geography.
