Welcome to Year 1! We are looking forward to getting to know you and offering a variety of learning opportunities.
Key information
PE Day: Thursday afternoon. Children will need a PE kit including black/navy joggers or shorts, black/navy jumper, white t-shirt and appropriate trainers.
Reading books: Your child will be read with or asked about reading at home once a week. Their book will be changed when they have finished it, or sooner if they ask a teacher.
Other: Please record your child's reading on the Go Read/Boom Reader App when you enjoy a book at home together.
Curriculum coverage
Autumn
In English, children will explore poetry, setting descriptions and instructional writing. Core books include BEEGU by Alexis Deacon and Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.
In Maths, children will cover number and place value within 10, addition and subtraction within 10, and geometry including shape.
In Science, children will learn about seasonal changes, daily weather, plants and animals including humans. In History, they will look at changes within living memory. In Geography, they will learn about continents, oceans and countries within the UK. In Computing, they will explore technology in the classroom before developing mouse and keyboard skills.
